KALUGIN Company reviewed the results of its performance in 2019
In 2019 our company’s task was to design and put into operation a few Stove Units of Kalugin design (Kalugin Shaftless Stoves) and Waste Heat Recovery Systems for the biggest iron and steel companies in China, Russia and Czech Republic. The company has successfully performed these tasks. Commissioning of blast furnace equipment was performed smoothly and in due time and all the design parameters mentioned in technical specifications have been properly achieved.
The company has proved once again a high level of its engineering developments as our engineers applied know-how technologies for implementation of our equipment in technologically complicated construction projects. It is certain that our successful performance has allowed us to secure the Russian and international market. These achievements were also supported by active presentation of our developments at industrial forums and scientific conferences. At AISTech2019 International Conference for Iron and Steel Production Technologies held in the USA (Pittsburgh) our company presented technological capabilities of the innovative top combustion stove of Kalugin design providing the world’s highest engineering and environmental performance. Presentation of this technology has traditionally excited a great interest from experts and potential customers. Moreover, last year the company participated in METEC, the 10th International Metallurgical Trade Fair with Congresses, held in Dusseldorf (Germany) every four years. In addition, the company’s engineers attended Moscow’s International Conference “The Best Available Technologies (BAT) in Blast-Furnace Production” where the expert community shared its experience in implementation of advanced technologies and where it was stated that cardinal improvements and growth in efficiency of the modern metallurgical production could be achieved due to implementation of new technical solutions in stove operation.
One of the new Kalugin Shaftless Stoves (KSS) was commissioned by our company in May 2019 at Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) in Russia. During development of this project, our company’s engineers considered and implemented all the customer’s requirements. The most efficient solutions were chosen for fulfilment of these requirements. We kept the lower part of the stove shell, existing underground flue duct, cold blast pipeline and bypass pipeline along with all the valves. We constructed the straight hot blast pipeline and combustion air supply station for the stoves and designed part of the power supply system. All the works were performed in line with very complicated technical requirements.
The next Kalugin Stove Unit was commissioned also in May in China at Shougang Jingtang United Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. The new stove unit consists of four KSS, two small KSS for combustion air pre-heating and combustion air mixer. For implementation of this project, we used advanced checker bricks with 20 mm channel diameter. Our engineers introduced a number of innovative technical solutions. They created a new system of blast transfer, a pear-shaped hot blast main, an alternative system of stove pressurization by separate compressors. All the new equipment operates without failures in accordance with the design parameters. In March 2020 the last guarantee performance testing of the stove unit will be carried out and they start commercial operation.
One more Kalugin Shaftless Stove was commissioned on 29th November at Trinec Iron and Steel Works in Czech Republic. When performing works under the project, the company’s engineers provided a high level of interaction with the customer’s representatives. Due to highly professional relationships, all the issues were settled quickly, which made it possible to complete the project within the established time limit.
The fourth stove construction project designed by KALUGIN was completed at the beginning of December at Novolipetsk Iron and Steel works in Russia. According to the Contract, we had to design and construct in conditions of different operating constraints at a confined construction site a four-stove unit capable of providing a high hot blast temperature of 1350 °С for a new blast furnace and install a big number of other auxiliary equipment. One more technological challenge successfully addressed by our engineers for the first time was an implementation of Gas Heat Pipe Heat Exchanger and Combustion Air Plate-Type Heat Exchanger in Kalugin Shaftless Stove Unit. However, the greatest challenge of this project was to execute this project in conditions of continuous operation of the blast furnace. Nevertheless, this project like all other projects was completed within the time limit established by the Customer. In January 2020 the performance testing of the stove unit will be carried out and it will start commercial operation.
All our customers highly appreciate the company’s engineering approaches to project implementation. The technical solutions found by our engineers without any loss in time and additional manufacturing efforts allowed our partners to reduce significantly construction periods and costs, enabled to integrate the new stoves in the existing blast furnace systems and achieve the required process parameters of operation. High competence of KALUGIN’s engineers, our ability to address all the challenges quickly and successfully allows us to establish mutually beneficial cooperation with our customers.
